#14 - Food. Family. Friends. Flowers

I have been excited and lazy to do up this post. Excited because it's the first time in a long time I had such an eventful week and I have so much to be thankful for but then again I'm lazy because well, I am just lazy to put my excitement into words. HA. But you can tell my excitement over rides my laziness at this moment and I pray hard it lasts through this post. MOVING ON!

Last week was my birthday week and I have just one word to summarise how I felt that week: Grateful.

I have always thought 19 was a weird age because it was in the middle of 18 and 20 in which both age has a certain meaning to it. 18 being the legal age for things like drinking, clubbing, driving and such while 20 is the start of the age with "2" in the front so I have always thought 19 would kind of be neglected since it is of not much special value; but this birthday week has proven just the opposite of weird.

It technically started with the amazing birthday surprise I got from my lovely MMQM committee on Sunday at Coastal Settlement and that is one birthday celebration that I'll never forget. It was the first time I manage to get surprised since I am a natural suspicious person but strangely I did not realise anything until I heard the birthday song. Apart from me dropping my guard and trusting this group of friends I think I get a little blur when I am with them too. Hahaha. Nonetheless, it's good to be surprised once in a while (: Really thank them for the effort in planning this so smoothly.

Thank you all once again ♥

Monday was spent studying at home and freaking out over my driving test the next day and truthfully I don't remember anything about Monday hahaha. But no school on that day so NO MONDAY BLUES YAY!

Tuesday was a really happy day because I PASSED MY DRIVING TEST! :D *throws confetti* I was honestly SO DARN happy that I almost broke into a dance right there and then in front of the tester. Thank God I was still in my right mind or else I would most probably be on Stomp. I did run happily on the road towards my teacher's car with the piece of paper doing a twist sign to him hahaha. And for the record, no, I did not wear short shorts or spaghetti top but jeans, T shirt and boots. The whole day I was just smiling to myself I fear my muscles have gone numb. I CAN DRIVE NOOOOOWW!!!

So to reward myself, I went shoe shopping on Wednesday with my sister. As strange as it sounds, it was kind of our first time going on a shopping trip together and it was so fun (: Really grateful for my sister because two is always better than one and she is just so good at nail art, clay art, hair art, just about anything arty farty.

We always joked if I ever become a superstar she would be my stylist (not that she isn't now haha). I can always ask her for fashion advice or squash beside her in her bed and annoy her with questions like "Do you love me? Why are you ignoring me? Mei. Mei. Mei." In which she will push me off the bed and give me the judging face. It's always fun with her around and I wouldn't trade her for anything else ^^

We lunched at Hot Tomato, munching down Chicken Chop with aglo olio before embarking on a walk through the many levels of 313 Somerset before heading to Scape and Cineleisure for more shopping. My main goal was to get shoes so we just browsed through everything else keeping in mind the nicer things we saw. Bought two gold necklace at F21 for only 5 bucks each! One of the necklace was previously 17 bucks so it was a really great steal. Too tired to snap pictures of them when I got back, hopefully I'll snap one in due time.

After searching for some time in the underground shops of Scape I finally found a bad ass pair of boot heels which was totally kick ass but unfortunately when I brought it home it was a size too big for me so now I'm stuck thinking whether to sell off this pair and get one in my size or just to put insoles inside :|

Nonetheless it is a really chic looking shoe that adds 5cm to my height! Although that 5cm proved useless when I walked beside the two tallest friends I have. Even after hopping onto those shoes I'm still at their shoulders T.T But it was still nice walking around the shop houses in Holland Village with the two of them searching for good food to eat on a Thursday

The two of them suspiciously asked me the day before if I was attending lecture the next day and if I was going to have lunch with them in which I replied "Fine, I'll eat with you two lonely asses." And the next day they bugged me throughout lecture asking me what I felt like eating and I just said "Eggs" to shut them up. When lecture ended they sat there seriously and said "Actually, we know your birthday is coming so we are going to buy you lunch." I was honestly touched and surprise although I didn't say it when they kept asking if I was happy and touch. It's the smallest gestures from the people that you least expect that touch you the most and I am really grateful to these two friends. As annoying (in a good way) as they both are, they are truly two friends that I would like to cherish, hopefully forever.

They wanted to bring me for some Dim Sum but didn't manage to book a table so I dragged them to try Hatched instead. So grateful they tried it with me although they aren't people who like eating Western for brunch. Thank you Mat and JH again! If you both were girls I would totally hug you two but no. So here is a virtual hug instead *hugs* (:

We ordered three different mains and everything was just eggs, eggs and more eggs. Honestly I have never eaten so much eggs before in a meal and I was really full after that. How we managed to gorge down one and a half pieces of Mudpie Cake at Island Creamery after that is still a mystery to me.

Verdict for Hatched is that unless you really love eggs from the bottom of your heart and you are starving to death, if not once is good enough for just a try of their food. The place was really nicely decorated though with everything eggy and they have the cutest chalked wall ever. Great for a chill out session with friends or just on your own.

Friday was a crazy cafe/restaurant hopping for me as I bounce from Stranger's Reunion to Tiong Bahru Bakery and lastly Everything with Fries. With all the eating going on I think I need to swim 1000 laps before I could get rid of it all. After lugging an Olympus Pen around with me the whole day I am seriously considering if having a DSLR is a good thing, I have red marks from where my bag straps lie on my shoulders :( However the nice photos make up for it all, bringing me to this struggling-decision-state-of-mind which I shadn't bore you with the details.

ON WITH THIS!!

Miraculously dragged myself out of bed at 730AM on Friday to travel down to Outram for breakfast with my lovely friends Wenyi, Huijing and Eelin at the Stranger's Reunion. The place is about a 5-10 minutes walk from Outram Mrt depending on how fast you walk and whether you know the place. We took quite a while deciding whether to head left or right at a junction but thank goodness for Google Maps. The little tiny blue arrow guided us to the right place without us sweating much. Was surprise to see that it was almost full house when it wasn't even 10AM in the morning. I guess good company really drives you out of bed early in the morning. The place was full of flowers which really brightens up your morning and if you asked me what I feel about Stranger's Reunion it would be flowers. And nice font.

Flowers at the cashier. I need a pot of this.

Flowers again. This time in a jar.

And more flowers.

Love the oak table which gives off this really homely feeling and nothing beats a hearty breakfast, some coffee and good company early in the morning.

The food was alright. I wouldn't say that it tastes exceptionally good. Honestly I was disappointed with the quality of it. Didn't get poached eggs cause I was sick of those so maybe they aren't really good in cooking the conventional scrambled eggs. Okay, I guess how nice can scrambled eggs get right? I would say I have tasted better food so this is a "been there, ate there, not going back soon" place.

The ambiance make up for it so it's one of those places that you can just chill out and watch life goes by.

Got surprised by the girls with a chocolate cheesecake and this was way better than the food.

Good photos to make up for the food.

Sneaked a daisy out of the place cause the flower is just so cherry (:
We chilled out at the void deck of a beautiful HDB in which I forgotten the name so here's a photo of it.
Really spectacular architecture and greenery.

With the girls.
Here's to a awesome university life and more meet ups! (:

Head down to Tiong Bahru Bakery next to meet up with Vivien!
Funny how we ended up at this place since none of us are much fans of bread.

While waiting for that woman I saw throngs of people buzzing in and out of the bakery and was truly in awe by how well this bakery is doing and how much bread everyone eats.

We settled for Berries Crumble, Macchiato (mine) and tea.
Love the heart shaped coffee art ♥

The Berries Crumble was too sweet for the both of us and it was kinda hard swallowing it down. My mouth must have produced tons of amylase just to break down all the sweetness in my mouth :O Apart from it being too sweet, I guess it was worth a taste and I don't mind trying the rest of the desserts the next time I visit this place.

Nicest photo in this series: Vivien's pumpkin soup

Had a great laugh and talk with this woman and I'm grateful for her in my life.

It's really funny how we got to become so close when the only relationship between us last time was that her younger sister is a close friend of mine. Never have I thought then in just half a year we would have grown so close just by serving in the same team together. I guess God works in amazing ways putting people you have never thought of being close to, in your life, allowing you to learn great lessons from these people, good or bad.

We headed down to Bugis afterwards on bus 65 which took us on a scamming ride making this loop which we didn't know of. But then stopping of at the tip of the loop allowed us to visit an old colleague so that scam wasn't that bad after all. Was searching for a good leather bag pack to carry to school but I guess I was too stuffed to shop so we just ended up walking around laughing at things people sell and finished the shopping trip with mens tee. Yes, mens tee. Saw a sales for mens clothes and we just browse through for pieces for our brothers and that's just about the only shopping we did. Totally want to dress my brother in those coloured berms and tribal tee. Almost bought everything in that shop for him. Boy, hurry grow more fats and stop being so skinny!!

Completed my date with Vivien and met up with Donovan for dinner at Everything with Fries.

I was so stuffed by that time that I passed on most of my bread and fries to the growing boy. EwF is not bad but I feel that it is just higher end fast food. So eat if you prefer higher end fast food to Macdonalds.

Finished the day out early because my dad suspiciously asked me back early for we were supposedly going to have a photo shoot in our house (what kind of lousy excuse was that?!) I grew more suspicious when I probed more about the issue and more or less guessed people were going to pop by and surprise me so I went along with it until my sister showed me "If Disney Princess Had Instagram" on her phone and out pops Huizhen's message saying they were at Tampines. Surprise gone. LOL. My sister dramatically falls to the ground screaming how failed she was and that she is going off to bed since there is no need for her to be around and locked herself in our room as I sat patiently watching Totoro.

Opened the door minutes later to the faces of Huizhen and K-Chuen being glum about the fail surprise but I secretly was grinning in my heart because I haven't seen them for ages and I wanted to scream dramatically "I MISSED YOU TWO SO MUCH" and sob in front of them. Of course I didn't. I am 19, I don't do such dramatic things anymore. Or maybe just "I MISSED YOU TWO SO MUCH" without the fuss and the tears.

They gave me the cutest cupcake made up of supposedly unicorns but according to Chuen, the seller got hungry so she ate the horns off so they are now just horses, and rainbows. Why they always link me to unicorns and rainbows is such a mystery. I AM A KICK ASS GIRL. NO FAIRY TALES. REALLY.

MAD LOVE the red boots they gave me which brings my boots collection to FOUR! :D

Paired them with a simple white tee, blue jeans and blue denim and added other tinges of red in the outfit.

Had to send Huizhen off to the bus stop because she wasn't really suppose to come all the way to my house so THANK YOU BERY MUCH MY DEAR :') Hope the next time we meet we can talk for hours!! End up sitting at the bus stop with Chuen after sending Huizhen on the bus just catching up on our lives and listening to his endless funny army stories. It was a really simple meet up but I'm extremely grateful they made an effort to surprise me ♥ MEET UP SOON!!

Just realised how long this blog post is. Grateful if you made it all the way here! Here's a ♥  :D HAHAHA.

Spent Saturday, my birthday with my family, getting a try at driving the car for the first time and my left leg feels so neglected. It feels great to be able to drive my family around especially my dad because he has always been driving me around since I was young and rarely did he ever ask me to come home on my own (I'M NOT SPOILT, MY DAD JUST LOVES ME) so being able to drive while he sits short gun beside me was a really nice feeling. Wish I get better so he let's me drive him around more. So nice to see him close his eyes and rest as I drove my parents home on a Sunday evening. It was a really great way to end the week being able to do a little something for the parents that brought me into this world and took care of me all these while. Whether you two see or not, Daddy Mummy, I love you and I'll be eternally grateful for all that you have done. ♥

Thanks for sticking around guys (:
FIN.
